Been awhile.

So I realize that the goal of writing a blog is to actually write. However, this has seemed to not be the case for me. I apologize for the long delay, but I haven't been actually working on my thesis (shh, don't tell my thesis chair) for, oh say, four months. Forgive me.

With that being said, here we go...

I hate bra shopping. I think that bras are one of the worst inventions known to (wo)man. First, they hurt. Second, underwire (and yes, this one is mutually exclusive). And third, it seems that no matter how hard I try I can never find the right fit/size. Oh and fourth, expense.

I bought two really great boulder holders at VS. They were a whopping fifty bucks a piece. Making my total purchase over a hundred with tax. This is a full ten percent of what I make as a TA, so I guess you can say that I tithed to Vickies' for the month. This massive purchase just left me four months later with two bras that were broken. Why?, you ask. Because the quality is poor. Really poor. (That's a topic for another time.)

Funny story, one of my really good friends recently decided to go get measured. She discovered, much to her amusement, that she was in fact a 'D' cup when all the while she had been wearing a 'B'. FROM A D TO A B!!! This is hilariously frustrating...

This leaves me to feel like I should join a tribe in Africa. Where in most places, I believe bras are optional...

Beginnings...

This blog has been a long time coming. I am just glad it is finally here! Hopefully, all of these thoughts that I have from my research will now have somewhere to land...

When I started my research on body image I was overwhelmed (and still am) with the loads of information there was out there about the phenomenon. The "thin ideal" has now seemed to hit full force in Western society and as globalization occurs we are seeing it more and more... 90% of all those who suffer from eating disorders are women! This stat alone makes me gasp... Also, in The Beauty Myth, Naomi Wolf states, that the average woman is 5'4" and weighs 140lbs; however, the average model is 5'11" and weighs 120lbs. Startling...

My goal of course is not to rant and rave about those who are "skinny" or "thin", but rather it is too take a second look at the standard of beauty that is pervasive throughout our society...

And this is just where it starts...
